Following a very grace-filled Triduum retreat, we have decided to offer a Pentecost Novena Retreat May 22-30, 2020. The first Pentecost Novena was offered by Mary with the Apostles and disciples in the Upper Room. Pope Leo XIII instituted the Pentecost Novena as the first official, universal novena in the Catholic Church and asked that it be prayed in every parish. For our theme this year we focus on the words that were memorably proclaimed by Pope St. John Paul II, “Be Not Afraid!” Each evening May 22-30, a nationally renowned speaker will apply these words to different aspects of our lives, for example, “Be Not Afraid of Illness” or “Be Not Afraid of Evil” or “Be Not Afraid of God’s Mercy.” We will also provide an excerpt each evening from a teaching by Pope St. John Paul II about the speaker’s theme. You can join us prior to the Speaker’s conference talk to pray Evening Prayer at 6:30pm ET and stay after the talk for a personal testimony, an opportunity to discuss the teaching in a small group and a conclusion of the evening’s meeting with Night Prayer at 8:00pm ET. See http://pentecostnovena.com for more details.
Let us pray that we can all emerge from fear with the confidence of God’s love as we continue to proclaim the Gospel during this pandemic!
