The USCCB’s 2020 Directory for Catechesis repeatedly calls the Church to offer catechesis in a way that fosters an encounter with Christ, shares the kerygma of His salvation, and prepares recipients to respond and evangelize. Have you wondered how to do that?
Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) is a model being used around that world that already addresses those key elements. Perhaps you were able to visit the five Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Atria set up for children newborn to 12 years old at the National Eucharistic Congress. Or maybe you’ve heard about CGS in your own region?
The Institute for Ministry Formation at Saint Vincent Seminary was created to form those who accompany others on the spiritual journey – initially in the role of Spiritual Direction. Yet a natural extension of this mission is to also support those who will accompany children and adults in Catechesis. We want to help you build up a culture of CGS in your communities!
This Fall, in an online, 2 credit course, (available for Audit), nationally recognized Formation leader Ms Celine Mitchell will give an overview of assisting with the spiritual formation of children 2-12 years old. This is an extremely beneficial way to get an overarching view of the entire Catechesis of the Good Shepherd model of sharing Jesus and His Church with children.
This course is designed for parents, grandparents, pastors, deacons, principals, DRE’s, coordinators – any overseers of children; and even current CGS catechists who haven’t yet delved into Level 2 or 3.
