IMRL600 – Principles of Prayer and Catholic Spirituality

In this course students learn the full scope of prayer as taught in the Catholic tradition. The particular spirituality of the Renewal is better understood in the fuller context of this tradition of Catholic prayer. Forms and spiritualities that fall outside the Catholic tradition are also covered for the sake of greater clarity and holding to what is authentically Catholic.
Topics include:
- Stages of spiritual development – purgative, illuminative and unitive
- Development in prayer – vocal prayer, meditation, contemplation
- Personal relationship with three Persons of Trinity
- Identifying misdirections in prayer and false mysticism
