The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Institute on the Catechism held its third annual convocation last week with the theme “Evangelizing Catechesis: Forming a Catechetical Culture.” The Institute on the Catechism works with the Church in the United States to help foster a kerygmatic, evangelizing catechesis in alignment with the 2020 Directory for Catechesis.
One of the goals of the Institute is “to accompany Diocesan directors, Instituted Catechists, those who oversee catechist formation, those who oversee Catholic education, those who oversee priestly and diaconate formation, and all involved in the work of catechesis who are at the service of their Bishop, to discover and support effective methods of proclaiming an evangelizing catechesis in their dioceses.” [Emphasis added.]
The IMF shares in this mission! In alignment with the 2020 Directory for Catechesis, the IMF has been supporting the formation of this very same audience.
Our Graduate certificate in Catechetics was launched, and the first cohort began in Fall of 2024. This program offers a scriptural, liturgical, contemplative, and accompaniment-based approach to catechesis. Rooted in Saint Vincent Seminary’s 175-year tradition of forming men and women for ministry, the certificate integrates the four dimensions of formation: human, pastoral, intellectual, and spiritual.
We recommend even just one of our courses for all involved in Catechesis because of it’s unique emphasis on a developmentally appropriate approach to sharing the faith: Introduction to Liturgical & Kerygmatic Catechesis for Children (IMCA-780) will be offered again this Fall, online, on Thursday evenings from 8-9:15pm.
